Biographies

Sister Barbara Jean (BJ)

Sister BJ, as she is known, is serving her third term as Abbess of the Fellowship. She has been an Anglican Religious for over 30 years, and has spent most of that time developing an itinerant ministry of preaching and teaching. Currently she is working at the Director of Christian Formation at St. Paul's Church in Centreville, MD (Diocese of Easton).Her passion is in leading Pilgrimages to the holy islands of Great Britain, with Scotland a major focal point in those trips. Sister BJ also enjoys her various travels to congregations and dioceses to lead workshops, retreats, to preach and to offer whatever support is necessary for the promotion of formation (education) ministry. Sister Julian 

   Sister Julian is the Co-founder and the Formation Guardian of the Fellowship. She was born and raised in Iowa, where her family still resides. Educated at the University of Iowa, she practiced pharmacy in Iowa, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia and Missouri prior to discerning a call to Religious Life and entering an Episcopal convent. After six years of traditional monastic life, and having come to share Sister Barbara Jean's vision for a new monastic expression, she ventured out of the known and into mystery. Sister Julian works as the trauma chaplain with Christiana Care Health Services in Wilmington and continues her ministry of preaching, teaching and retreat work begun in her previous community. She offers a special prayer ministry in the creation of Anglican Rosaries.

Sister Cassandra Grace

Sister Cassandra's family and church heritage reach far back into the history of the Episcopal Church in Southern Virginia. She worked for many years as a para-legal and in the real estate business of titles and escrows. For many years she held the position of parish and worship chairpersonfor ECW in the Diocese of Southern Virginia. She is the proud grandmother of Carter, and Tristan. Sister Cassandra is an EFM mentor and also works as pastoral ministries coordinator at her parish of St. Barnabas, in Wilmington. She has addressed several groups on monasticism and as a Cursillista, has given many talks. She is available for spiritual direction and to come to any congregation who desires a program on spirituality.

 

Brother Carl Gregory

Brother Carl Gregory, the Assistant Abbot of the Fellowship, has a masters degree in psychology and has completed advanced training at the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis. He has worked in the mental health field for over 36 years. Presently, he is a mental health clinician. Brother Carl Gregory he has been an active member of The Church of The Ascension in Delaware. He has for the past twenty-four years, serving as a lay eucharistic visitor, lay-reader, diocesan delegate, vestry member and warden. He has preached, taught study-groups and served on many vestry committees. He has a keen interest in Celtic Spirituality and helping Christians to find their way to God. Brother Carl Gregory hopes to expand his activities into Quiet-day retreat leadership, reaching out to the unchurched, and expansion of studies and teaching of Celtic church history with an application to our lives in an ever increasing sectarian world. Brother Carl is also beginning the process for ordination to the vocational diaconate.

Sister Sheila Brigid

Sister Sheila Brigid grew up in New Jersey and is a cradle Episcopalian. She earned her B.A. in Music at the University of Delaware and has a M.S. in Pastoral Care/Spiritual Direction from Neumann College, and a certificate for theologicval studies from Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia. After retiring from a career in banking, she has been ordained to the Vocational Diaconate and is now serving at Immanuel Church, Highlands, in Wilmington, doing pastoral work and spiritual direction. Sr. Sheila Brigid professed her vows in February 2006 and takes part in the prayer ministry of making Anglican rosaries. Sister Sheila and Richard have been married for over forty years and have three adult daughters and two granddaughters.

  Sister Suzanne Elizabeth

Sister Suzanne Elizabeth, born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and at 9 months of age was adopted by John P and Dorothea Elizabeth Roberts. Living in Hamilton at the time, they moved to London, Ontario it was from London and then moved to the United States,  to Lansing, Michigan. It was in Miami that Suzanne met Michael and were married on May 1st, 1963. As Mike was in the Navy, they lived many places as Suzanne and Mike began their family; first son Michael was born July 28th, 1964 (deceased the same year). Then on August 29th, 1965, The Lord blessed them with another son, Robert. Twelve years later a miracle child Michelle Elizabeth arrived on June 30th 1976. Presently Sister Suzanne serves The Lord in a variety of ways, a Stephen Minister, Chair of our Parish Intercessors, Curisistta, EFM, Kerygma, a certified Prayer Healer, at St. Francis parish in Virginia Beach, VA.

Sister Jacalyn Hild

Making her Profession of vows on August 17, 2007, Sister Jackie chose to honor the memory of Jonathan Myrick Daniels, a seminarian who was martyred during the Civil Rights Movement, in 1965, on August 20th. Sister Jacalyn Hild has been a champion of the poor and oppressed for many years and has actively engaged in programs and causes that uphold the rights of humanity. She has worked for many years as an accountant for the Du Pont Corporation and is a licesnced CPA. Jackie has offered to share her home with several other members of the Fellowship and so we now have our first community house. Because of her love for St. Hilda of Whitby, the house is now called Whitby House.

Sister Barbara Clare

Sr Barbara Clare has been a professed Religious for 8 years. Formally a member of the Order of Jonathan Daniels, Sister Barbara Clare transferred her Religious commitment to Anamchara Fellowship in 2006. A certified Hospice nurse, Barbara Clare is also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chatham, New Jersey, where she leads the Parish Nurse Program. Her new passion is as an EMT with the Chatham Emergency Squad! Partnered for 32 years with the Rev'd Elizabeth Kaeton, they have five children and four grandchildren.

Sister Catherine Marie (Cass)

Combining career and church ministry has never been too difficult for Cass as she juggled rearing several children and was active in the Roman Catholic Church for many years.  When her last child went to first grade, she returned to school to get her Masters degree in Social Work and thus began a new career, albeit with many similarities.  After working many years for Philadelphia Child Guidane Clinic and Resources, for Human Development, Sister Cassleft to begin her own practice.  She is a licensed in PA and have offices in Philadelpha and Media.  After leaving the Roman Church she became a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal parish in Pitman, NJ.  working with the Altar Guild, and attending a Bible Study, and is the Co-chair of ECW, also participating in the UTO and Prayer Ministry. Cass made her Profession of vows on June 9, 2010, the Feast of St. Columba.

Sister Patricia Angela   

    Pat comes to us from the distant Diocese of Los Angeles, California.  She has spent many years as an Associate and an Oblate of the Sisterhood of the Holy Nativity, and has decided to move on in her spiritual walk along a more Celtic path. Pat is a retired teacher and she now spends her time leading retreats and teaching contemplative prayer.  She is a member of the National Organization of Biblical Storytellers and offers her abilities to "tell" the Scriptures as a Lector in her home parish of St. George's in La Canada.  Sister Patricia Angela Professed her vows in the Fellowship on June 9, 2010, the Feast of St. Columba.  She will be a "Religious in Transition" under these vows for a year, afte which she will become a full member of the Fellowship.

Sister Barbara Trinitas

Our third Barbara is a muscian and music teacher.  She is a member of Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Wilminton, DE where she sings in the professional choir.  She is a member of the Prayer ministry there, and is also part of the Pre-emptive Peace committee.

 

 

Brother William Morgan

Born in Bronx, NY. Served two years in the Army. Retired after 37 years with AT&T. Joined St. Paul's Church and is a member of the Vestry, a Eucharistic Visitor and serves on the Altar Guild. Has a bachelors degree from Pace University in NYC , major in Labor Management Relations. Loves writing poetry and writing in general. Is a disaster volunteer with the American Red Cross. Is currently enrolled in the EFM program and will be starting year three in the fall of 2009. Interests are history and volunteering.

Brother Bruce Finbarr   

Bruce is a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Wilmington Delaware. His ministries include alcohol recovery, adult education programs, as well as serving as a communion assistant. Bruce has a PhD and 2 Masters degrees in Oceanography, Agriculture and Extension Education. During the work week, he serves as a regional manager for a solar company that manufactures a machine to circulate water in reservoirs, drinking water tanks and waste water lagoons.  Bruce is married to Cindy, who is retired from General Motors. Bruce is father to Johanna, who lives and teaches school in Charlotte, NC.

Sister Kate Maura

Born in South Philadelphia. Currently resides in South Jersey. Member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Chews Landing, NJ Vestry member, alter guild, ECW president and Eucharistic Minister. My passions are exercise, poetry, and cooking. I am a 5th degree black belt, master in the art of Tang Soo Do. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. I enjoy volunteer work in my community and spending time with my dogs: Abby, Ruffus, Princess and Bell.  Kate was clothed as a novice with the Fellowship, taking the name Sister Kate Maura on May 22nd... the eve of Pentecost, 2010.

Aspirant John Filkins

John was born and raised in Birmingham Michigan. He is a cradle Episcopalian who took a 10 years sabbatical in the Presbyterian Church where he was active in inner city youth ministry. During his sabbatical he met Lea who was also active in the same ministry and they were married. Youth ministry seems to be a good way to start a relationship as they have been married for 32 years. They have no children although 2 years into marriage they became guardians of Kim, Lea’s sister, and began raising a 14 year old. Kim is married and has 2 teenage boys so they are pseudo grandparents. Lea and John are members of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Detroit Michigan. As a member of the Cathedral John trains and facilitates the Eucharistic Visitors and operate the sound system. He serves the Bishop as a member of the Commission on Ministry and as the chair of a diocesan sub-committee tasked with developing a vision for lay ministry in the diocese and developing a diocesan program to meet that vision. John am a graduate of the Whitaker School of Theology (diocesan school). In 1995 he began serving as an Episcopal Chaplain and is presently serving at Southshore Medical Center in Trenton Michigan. In addition to hospital chaplaincy John isa research biologist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, at the Large Lakes Research Station, where he conduct research in methyl mercury and its movement in the Great Lakes ecosystem.

Aspirant The Rev. Eunice Dunlap  

Eunice Dunlap grew up in the big city of New York where she met her husband George who was an actor. After marriage in 1984, Eunice and George moved to Maine, George's original residence, where they raised three sons, Kagan, Trevor, and Stuart. Eunice finished her Bachelor’s Degree through the State University of New York Regents College, and her Master of Divinity Degree at Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, Maine. She served as a licensed minister in the United Church of Christ through the Maine Seacoast Missionary Society for 3 ½ years before experiencing a call to ministry in The Episcopal Church. In 1998 Eunice & her family moved to New Bern, NC to escape the cold New England weather. In 2000 Eunice received a certificate in Spiritual Direction at the Pecos Benedictine School for Spiritual Direction and in 2001 she entered Virginia Theological Seminary to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Anglican Studies. Eunice was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in 2003 and now serves as Assistant Rector at St. James Episcopal Church in charge of Pastoral Care in the mountains of North Carolina. Eunice’s interest include a love for animals (she has 4 dogs), for the beauty of the mountains, music, and of course all things Celtic.

Aspirant Kristen Yarborough 

 Kristen is a native of North Carolina; born, breaded and fried.  She lives in the mountains with her dog Lily and cats St. Sugar Frances and Mr. Hughes.  When not hanging out with her animal family, writing poems in her journal or out enjoying nature, she works as a principal singer and manager of the local opera company and teaches voice at Western Carolina University.  She holds two Bachelor degrees (musical theatre and classical voice) and a Master of Music in Opera Performance. Kristen is member of St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville, NC, where she is an active member of the choir and a lay reader. Fulfilling a dream ten years in the making, she journeyed to Ireland with her best friend in 2006, and there began to discern a call to ministry.  Kristen is currently an aspirant in the discernment process for the priesthood in the Episcopal Church.  She is grateful to her friend, mentor and fellow aspirant Eunice for introducing her to the wonderful community of AF.
