Biographies

Sister Barbara Jean (BJ)

Sister BJ, as she is known, is serving her second term as Abbess of the Fellowship. She has been an Anglican Religious for over 30 years, and has spent most of that time developing an itinerant ministry of preaching and teaching. Her passion is in leading Pilgrimages to the holy islands of Great Britain, with Scotland a major focal point in those trips. Currently, she is working for St Thomas, Whitemarsh, in Fort Washington, PA as the CHildren's Ministry Coordinator. Sister BJ also enjoys her various travels to congregations and dioceses to lead workshops, retreats, to preach and to offer whatever support is necessary for the promotion of formation (education) ministry. Sister Julian 

   Sister Julian is the Co-founder and   Assistant Abbess of the Fellowship. She was born and raised in Iowa, where her family still resides. Educated at the University of Iowa, she practiced pharmacy in Iowa, Texas, Tennessee, Virginia and Missouri prior to discerning a call to Religious Life and entering an Episcopal convent. After six years of traditional monastic life, and having come to share Sister Barbara Jean's vision for a new monastic expression, she ventured out of the known and into mystery. Sister Julian works as a hospital chaplain with Christiana Care Health Services in Wilmington and continues her ministry of preaching, teaching and retreat work begun in her previous community. A special prayer ministry is the creation of Anglican Rosaries.

Sister Cassandra Grace

Sister Cassandra's family and church heritage reach far back into the history of the Episcopal Church in Southern Virginia. She worked for many years as a para-legal and in the real estate business of titles and escrows. For many years she held the position of parish and worship chairpersonfor ECW in the Diocese of Southern Virginia. She is the proud grandmother of Carter, an active and precious 3 year old. Sister Cassandra is an EFM mentor and lives at Whitby House, the Fellowship's first expression of community living, in Newark, DE. Sister Cassandra Grace  works at her parish of St. Barnabas, in Wilmington, as a pastoral care coordinator. She has addressed several groups on monasticism and as a Cursillista, has given many talks. She is available for spiritual direction and to come to any congregation who desires a program on spirituality.

 

Brother Carl Gregory

Brother Carl Gregory has a masters degree in psychology and has completed advanced training at the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis. He has worked in the mental health field for over 36 years. Presently, he is a mental health clinician. Brother Carl Gregory he has been an active member of The Church of The Ascension in Delaware. He has for the past twenty-four years, serving as a lay eucharistic visitor, lay-reader, diocesan delegate, vestry member and warden. He has preached, taught study-groups and served on many vestry committees. He has a keen interest in Celtic Spirituality and helping Christians to find their way to God. Brother Carl Gregory hopes to expand his activities into Quiet-day retreat leadership, reaching out to the unchurched, and expansion of studies and teaching of Celtic church history with an application to our lives in an ever increasing sectarian world.

Sister Sheila Brigid

Sister Sheila Brigid grew up in New Jersey and is a cradle Episcopalian. She earned her B.A. in Music at the University of Delaware and has a M.S. in Pastoral Care/Spiritual Direction from Neumann College. After a career in banking, she now does pastoral work and spiritual direction. Sr. Sheila Brigid professed her vows in February 2006 and takes part in the prayer ministry of making Anglican rosaries. She is also an Postulant for the (permanent) diaconate and is enrolled in a certificate program at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. Sister Sheila and Richard have been married for over forty years and have three adult daughters and two granddaughters.

  Sister Suzanne Elizabeth

Sister Suzanne Elizabeth, born May 12, 1942, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, John P and Dorothea Elizabeth Roberts gratefully chose me at about 9 months of age. The adoption was finalized April 1st 1943, making an extremely happy family. Living in Hamilton at the time, then moving to London, Ontario it was from London that we moved to the United States, Lansing, Michigan. Having lived many places with my family such as the suburbs of Detroit, from there it was the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA, then onto Miami, FL. It was in Miami that Michael and I were married on May 1st, 1963. As Mike was in the Navy, our first duty station together was Philadelphia then on to Newport, Rhode Island, where our first son Michael was born July 28th, 1964 (deceased the same year), August 29th, 1965,. The Lord blessed us with another son, Robert. We adopted Scott in 1978, he and Robert are the same age, his birthday being April 13th. Twelve years later our miracle child Michelle Elizabeth arrived on June 30th 1976. Presently I serve The Lord in a variety of ways, a Stephen Minister, Chair of our Parish Intercessors, Curisistta, EFM, Kerygma, a certified Prayer Healer.

Sister Jacalyn Hild

Making her Profession of vows on August 17, 2007, Sister Jackie chose to honor the memory of Jonathan Myrick Daniels, a seminarian who was martyred during the Civil Rights Movement, in 1965, on August 20th. Sister Jacalyn Hild has been a champion of the poor and oppressed for many years and has actively engaged in programs and causes that uphold the rights of humanity. She has worked for many years as an accountant for the Du Pont Corporation and is a licesnced CPA. Jackie has offered to share her home with several other members of the Fellowship and so we now have our first community house. Because of her love for St. Hilda of Whitby, the house is now called Whitby House.

Sister Barbara Clare

Sr Barbara Clare has been a professed Religious for 8 years. Formally a member of the Order of Jonathan Daniels, Sister Barbara Clare transferred her Religious commitment to Anamchara Fellowship in 2006. A certified Hospice nurse, Barbara Clare is also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chatham, New Jersey, where she leads the Parish Nurse Program. Her new passion is as an EMT with the Chatham Emergency Squad! Partnered for 31 years with the Rev'd Elizabeth Kaeton, they have five children and four grandchildren.

Brother Steven Brendan

Brother Steven Brendan is a novice with the Fellowship.  He has worked as an attorney for over 20 years. Steven is currently employed with Obermeyer, Rehmann, Maxwell and Hippel. He is a member of St. Alban's Church in north Wilmington where he and his wife were youth group leaders for the past 3 years.  He has served on the Church's vestry as Senior Warden and has recently led one of the focus groups. He also serves on the transition team while the parish goes through the process of calling a new rector. Brother Steven is a lay reader, a Eucharistic minister and pastoral care team member. He has been married to Sister Andrea Ita for 20 years. The couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this past December with a blessing of their marriage at one of the Fellowship's regular Friday evening meetings.

 

Sister Andrea Ita

Sister Andrea Ita is a novice with the Fellowship.  She received a BA in English/History.  She hasheld many various administrative positions in the legal, medical and educational fields. Sister Andrea is currently a volunteer with Delaware Hospice, the Claymont Community Center Food Closet and Habitat for Humanity, Delaware.  She is active in her church, St. Alban's, as a lay reader, Eucharistic minister, altar guild member, pastoral care team member and Barnabas Fund committee member.  Sister Andrea also serves on the Diocesan Council and is an EFM student.  Recently she had the opportunity to travel to Romania with the Episcopal Campus mMinistry at the University of Delaware and Habitat for Humanity.  She and her husband, Brother Steven Brendan, also recently attended the Everyone, Everywhere Conference, the first mission conference of the Episcopal Church.  Sister Andrea Ita and Brother Steven Brendan have been happily married for over 20 years.

Sister Kara Aidan

A member of Good Shepherd parish in Pitman, NJ.  Retired nurse practicioner and enjoys creating lovely things with her hands.  She has been a member of a miniature club for many years and makes tiny teddybears.  Serves as a LEM in her parish and helps guide the ECW group.

 

 

Sister Catherine Marie (Cass)

Combining career and church ministry has never been too difficult for me as I juggled rearing several children and was active in the Roman Catholic Church for many years.  When my last child went to first grade, I returned to school to get my Masters degree in Social Work and thus began a new career, albeit with many similarities.  After working many years for Philadelphia Child Guidane Clinic and Resources, for Human Development, I left to begin my own practice.  I am licensed in PA and have offices in Philadelpha and Media.  After leaving the Roman Church I became a member of Good Shepherd Episcopal parish in Pitman, NJ.  I work with the Altar Guild, and attend a Bible Study, and the Co-chair of ECW, and participate in the UTO and Prayer Ministry.  I was clothed as a Novice with Sister Kara Aidan on Feb 3, 2008.

 

Brother Christopher Nicholas

A parishoner of St. Thomas the Apostle in Dallas, TX, Christopher has recently begun teaching a Sunday School class in the parish. He is also working as a youth leader for St. John's Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Brother Christopher soon finishes training as a hospice chaplain and completed classes at the Dallas Theological Seminary.  Christopher is a writer and poet.  Check out his blog.

 

 

 

 

Aspirant Ines Lugo Llaca

Mother to two wonderful little boys,  Sebastian and Jonathan, Ines is a member of St. James, Millcreek in Wilmington, DE.  Currently an active "stay-at-home" mom, Ines trained as a neuro-scientist and has taught at a Univeristy in Puerto Rico, her home country.  Victor, her husband is a scientist for the DuPont corporation. 

 

 

Aspirant Barbara Jean Nyce

Executive Director of the Suburban Music School, our third Barbara is a muscian and music teacher.  She is a member of Christ Church Christiana Hundred in Wilminton, DE where she sings in the professional choir.  She is a member of the Prayer ministry there, and is also part of the Pre-emptive Peace committee.

 

 

Aspirant Anita Broderick

I was born, raised and currently reside in New Jersey.  Earned a B.A. degree from St. Bonaventure University (English major; concentration in Physical Education)). Received my Master of Letters degree from Drew University (Contemporary Literature).  Spent 19 years working in the library field - mostly in the pharmaceutical industry. Currently working for St. Clare's Health System as the Information Services Coordinator at the NJ & American Self-Help Group Clearinghouses.  I am a pet friend to 3 dachshunds: Max, Scout and Butch.  I am a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chatham, NJ where I currently serve as a District 4 Rep and usher.  Recently, I concluded training as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor and am looking forward to growing into this pastoral care ministry.  I am also involved with food preparation for the Market Street Mission and Community Soup Kitchen, both located in Morristown, NJ.
